The Art of Ritual
The Wellness Trio Gift Set
It’s the first of May today which means we have another opportunity for a fresh start. It also happens to be the first of two full moons this month - how magical is that! Full moons invite us to surrender what is no longer serving us to make space for what we want to call in. What habits or beliefs are you ready to let go of? What ways of being no longer feel aligned with who you want to become? What patterns are you stuck in (this is a big one for me)? So grab your journal, light your candle, and start excavating because it’s full moon ritual time!
Ritual has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up going to church every Sunday and while the mass itself wasn’t always captivating to my young mind, the rituals were. I enjoyed reciting the prayers, moving through the scripted motions of sitting to standing to kneeling, and watching the priest swing the incense on holy days. Even though I didn’t understand what most of the rituals meant at the time, I knew they were important, sacred, and communal. I’ve since traded church for nature, incense for candles, and while I definitely still pray, it’s usually in the form of writing. But ritual itself remains an integral part of my life. It provides me stable ground during turbulent times and fills my heart with hope. And I could seriously write a book about all the magical moments that have come out of my rituals. Ask me about manifesting a double rainbow sometime.
Much like my new moon ritual, my full moon ritual begins with journaling. I usually begin with one of the questions I listed above and just let the words flow onto the page. Sometimes I have a clear idea of what I’m ready to release, other times I have no idea where to start. But I do the work and have faith that I will never come up empty. And I never do. That’s the beauty of being a flawed human - there will always be areas I need to improve upon. Often I end up with small things I’m ready to release, but for the bigger ones, I go a step further. I write them out on small slips of paper and burn them one by one in my fireplace. Fire is a powerful cleansing force and there’s something about watching them go up in flames that makes it feel more real. It holds me more accountable. Ritual is powerful.
Wishing you all peace, love, and surrender as you make your way through your full moon rituals today. Let’s create space in our hearts to welcome in our wildest dreams. And if you don’t yet have a ritual in place, today is the perfect day to start. With double full moon magic this month, we all have two chances to get it right! 🖤
